Boxer Age Calculator
How old is your Boxer
in human years?
White or fawn, male or female, Boxers lived about equally long in UK vet records. This calculator uses the breed's own lifespan from a 2024 study of 584,734 UK dogs, including 11,294 Boxers.

Boxer age chart: Boxer years to human years
Find your Boxer's age on the left and read across. The right column is our standard estimate for a dog of 50 to 90 lbs, which turns senior at 8.9. A Boxer's breed-based senior age is about 8.5, so the columns stay close: a 9-year-old Boxer is about 67 in human years, against 65 for a typical large dog.

Shaded cells: senior life stage (the last quarter of expected lifespan, AAHA 2019).
When is a Boxer considered a senior?
At about 8 and a half. The 2019 AAHA life stage guidelines define the senior stage as the last 25% of a dog's estimated lifespan, and 75% of the Boxer's 11.3-year median is about 8.5.
Lumps are a good reason to keep regular checkups going at this stage. In UK vet records, cancer and mass lesions together were among the most common reasons for a Boxer's death.
How long do Boxers live?
- 11.3 years (median): McMillan et al. (2024) combined records for 584,734 UK dogs, including 11,294 Boxers. The median for all dogs was 12.5.
- 10.46 years (median age at death): O'Neill et al. (2023) reviewed 335 Boxer deaths with a known age under UK vet care.
- 10.04 years (life expectancy at birth): Teng et al. (2022) built life tables from about 836 UK Boxers. Their figure for dogs overall was 11.23.
- 10 to 12 years (breed range): the range the American Kennel Club lists. It isn't a measured average.
Do white Boxers age differently?
This calculator uses one number for all Boxers, and the data supports that. White Boxers died at a median of 10.55 years and other Boxers at 10.38, with no significant difference. We look at that and other findings in Boxer lifespan: do white Boxers live shorter lives?
Gums, eyes and lumps in Boxers
Two of the most common diagnoses in UK Boxers stand out as breed problems: epulis, a growth on the gums (5.84% in one year), and corneal ulcers, sores on the eye's surface (5.00%). Cancer was the most common known cause of death at 12.43%, at a median age of 9.45. A look at the gums, a prompt visit for a squinting eye and a vet check for new lumps all make sense as your Boxer gets older.
How we calculate Boxer age
- First two years: the formula from Wang et al. (2020, Cell Systems), human_age = 16 ร ln(dog_age) + 31, the same for every dog. A 1-year-old is about 31 in human years and a 2-year-old about 42.
- After age 2: a steady pace set so a Boxer reaches 65 human years when it turns senior at about 8.5. That's about 3.5 human years per year, against 3.3 for a typical large dog. It puts a Boxer at the 11.3-year median at about 75, the same point every size reaches at its typical lifespan in our main calculator.
